The best recipe apps in 2026, free and paid
The best recipe app depends on where your recipes come from. Free and paid picks for TikTok saving, paying once, Android, Windows and meal planning.

There isn't one best recipe app, because people want different things from one. Someone who saves twenty TikToks a week needs something different from someone with a shelf of cookbooks, a Windows laptop and a strong dislike of subscriptions. So instead of a ranking, here are picks by need, each with the reason it wins and what it costs.
How we chose: we have written importers for most of these apps, so we know their data formats closely, and every price was checked in October 2026 on the app's own site or store listing. We also make one of the apps (Sugo), and we say where it wins and where it doesn't.
The picks
Best for saving recipes from TikTok and Instagram: ReciMe or Sugo. ReciMe has done social capture the longest: Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Facebook and Pinterest, free for about five imports a week, $39.99 a year for ReciMe Plus. Sugo also reads the steps creators only say out loud, which matters for the many reels where the quantities are spoken and never written down. Its free plan allows 25 link imports and 5 photo or video imports a month.
Best one-time purchase: Paprika. Paprika is $4.99 on a phone and $29.99 on a computer, bought once per platform, and its built-in browser is the quickest way to save from recipe websites. Note that Paprika 4's new features, now in beta, will need a subscription.
Best budget one-time purchase: Recipe Keeper. Recipe Keeper is free to try with a $19.99 one-time Pro upgrade on the App Store, and it scans photos and PDFs.
Best on Windows: Paprika or Recipe Keeper. Both have a real Windows app. Sugo, ReciMe and Plan to Eat work in a browser instead.
Best for an all-Apple household: Crouton. Crouton is a carefully made recipe app for iPhone, iPad and Mac. It keeps your library in your own iCloud, and costs $24.99 once after 20 free recipes. Its hands-free mode moves between steps with a wink.
Best shared shopping list: AnyList. AnyList keeps two people's lists right in real time, free, with recipes and meal planning in AnyList Complete at $9.99 a year ($14.99 for a household).
Best dedicated meal planner: Plan to Eat. Plan to Eat is $5.95 a month or $49 a year, with a 14-day trial. It turns a plan built from your own recipes into a grocery list sorted by store and aisle.
Best for cooking from what you already have: Sugo. Sugo tracks your pantry and ranks your saved recipes by what you can make tonight without shopping. Most recipe apps store recipes and leave that decision to you.
Best for cooking hands-free: Sugo or Crouton. Sugo reads steps aloud and takes voice commands as well as wink gestures. Crouton has winks only and pioneered them.
Best for nutrition per serving: Sugo. Sugo works out 14 nutrition values per serving from a recipe's ingredients, so a recipe saved from a video gets numbers too. ReciMe shows four macros on ReciMe Plus. Paprika, AnyList and Crouton keep whatever nutrition text the source page had, if it had any.
Best free plan: Sugo. Cook mode, the pantry, a meal plan and the shopping list are all free, with monthly limits on imports. ReciMe's free tier is the runner-up, capped at about five imports a week.
